Story

Jacqueline (Jackie) Vincent, mother to 3 children and 8 grandchildren, best friend to many, sadly passed away on 28th March.  She was a carer locally within our community for most of her life.  She was a live-in carer and warden at Frederick Andrews Court and a carer at Piggs Corner Complex.  She was loved by many in our local community and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

The Vincent family contacted Zoe at Chafford Hundred Community First Responder team to ask for assistance to help them donate and dedicate a Public Access Defibrillator Unit in Stifford Clays, Thurrock, in honour of their dear mother, Jackie, who sadly passed away on the 28th March 2019.

In the UK, approximately 30,000 people suffer a cardiac arrest outside hospital each year. Following a cardiac arrest, chance of survival decreases by around 10% per minute. As such, it is crucial that emergency treatment begins as soon as possible. If you come across someone who is not breathing or breathing erratically, the most important thing is to call 999 and start CPR to keep the blood flowing around the body. After a cardiac arrest, every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces someone's chance of survival by 10 per cent. Time is critical and every second counts. The chance of surviving a sudden cardiac arrest after 10 minutes with no treatment is less than 5%, with CPR and a defibrillator this figure rises to 70%.

Please help the Vincent family and Chafford CFR team to raise the £1300 required to help make this families wish to honour their beloved mum and grandmother a reality and have this piece of equipment available to all. The Defibrillator will be available to be accessed by the local community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to help save lives of patients in Cardiac Arrest.

With your help to raise £1300, we can install a public access automatic external defibrillator (AED) in the location of the families choosing and provide training to members of the local community if they would like it. Chafford Hundred Community First Responder Team will support the members of the community to undergo training and familiarisation with the equipment and will hold Heartstart courses to teach CPR and other emergency life saving skills to ensure many people as possible are trained in Basic Life Support to give someone in an emergency life threatening situation the best possible chance.

Please support the cause by donating and help us achieve the goal.

If you have any questions or need any additional information on this project please do not hesitate to contact Zoe at Chafford Hundred Community First Responder Team.

Chafford Hundred Community First Responders (CFRs) are volunteers who have been trained by the East of England Ambulance service to respond to local 999 emergency calls on behalf of the ambulance service. We are deployed at the same time as a rapid response vehicle or a doubled staffed ambulance to attend "immediate life-threatening" calls and provide basic life-saving clinical care to the patient in those vital first few minutes before the arrival of the ambulance . We are also a very welcomed second pair of hands to assist the ambulance staff when they arrive.
