Barnardo's - KPMG Sahara Desert Trek · 1 April 2012 ·
'The Team' consisting of Klaus Woeste, Lucy Neame, Katie Wynn-Jones, Piers Cadman and Nick Barbone did not need much convincing when asked to partake in a charity hike to raise money for Barnardos, especially as we were told it would take place in a tropical land with the Atlantic Ocean to the West, the Med to the North and the Red Sea to the East. We jumped at the chance of reducing our ‘Fake Bake’ tanning costs and instantly said ‘Yes!’ On closer inspection of an atlas though, we realised that this was not a stroll through the fishing villages of Lanzarote or the souks of Marrakesh (our geography is perhaps not completely up to scratch!) it emerged that this tropical land, was slightly more arid than we had anticipated. It turns out we have committed to stomp through one of the harshest climates in the world, scale 180 metre high sand dunes and complete a 100 km trek in the soaring heat of the Sahara Desert.
We embark on our extraordinary challenge in April 2012 and have a team fundraising target of £13,000.00 and we need your support! Please sponsor us to help reach are fundraising target for Barnardos. Barnardos works with over 100,000 children, young people and families every year, as well as providing care, offering mentoring and education services. In order to maintain this level of support the charity requires substantial support from UK communities and this is where we come in…
Thank you for your support! Rest assured we will keep you updated with our progress as well as provide with a blow by blow account of the challenge leading up to the event, during and after!!
