Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Our fundraising team is Chandan Sharma, Sanj Sharma , Sundeep Soor , Raj Sharma & Indy Singh

Life as we know it has turned upside down for many this year, and it did so in a very real way for us. Towards the end of March 2020 our dear brother Sanj Sharma became gravely ill. Those who know him know that he would routinely work all around the country as barrister and just before the nationwide lockdown in March came back home to Nottingham from London where he had been working. He very soon became seriously unwell with a high temperature, cough and started to have chest pains and breathing difficulties. This lasted for 5 days as he isolated at home and then due to the drastic deterioration in his condition he was rushed by ambulance to Nottingham’s Queens Medical Centre Hospital. He was then transferred later that night by ambulance and with a Dr by his side to the Respiratory Ward at the Nottingham City Hospital. He had been diagnosed with severe COVID 19.

His condition deteriorated rapidly over the next few days as he struggled to breathe and his life was ebbing away culminating in him being placed in an induced coma and onto a ventilator. He bravely fought for his life in the Intensive Care Unit for the next 14 days. As his eyes were closed all of our lives stood still. No family or friends were allowed close to him let alone visit him. For the next 14 days all those that know him waited with baited breath, cried uncontrollably and prayed sincerely, until by the grace of God, he woke up from his very deep sleep and smiled once again at us.

The amazing Doctors, Nurses and health workers who looked after him became his family. He spent, in total, 28 days in hospital before being discharged and returned back to his family where he belongs. He was admitted into hospital as a fit healthy (slightly chubby) 39 year old, with no underlying health issues and with the blessings of god was able to celebrate his 40th birthday with his family. Life really has began at 40 for him. He has been given a new lease of life. The road to full recovery is a long and difficult one, but we are with him every step of the way.

We all acknowledge the wonderful way he was cared for and looked after by those that keep the NHS functioning. They gave him the opportunity to live life once more and we intend on living it with him.

We acknowledge that some have not been so lucky and our heart goes out to those families who have lost loved ones. In honour of all those affected by COVID 19 and our brothers story and to pay homage to the wonderful work of the NHS during these very difficult and troubling times, we, his brothers, are taking up a challenge with Sanj to climb Mount Snowdon on 16th October 2020. We want to raise money and give back, in the way we can, to our chosen charities and all those wonderful people who bought our brother back to us.

 Thank you!
