Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
One evening, I went to a charity dinner with my very good friends Professor Mark and Dr Meekai Johnson. I was Mark's junior doctor Back In The Day.......
The charity is Borne. It is raising money for medical research into Preterm Delivery. This affects around 7% of deliveries, and is the most important cause of disability in childhood (and beyond) in this country, and the developed world. Most of us know someone whose baby was born prematurely, and some of us, whose babies were adversely affected because of this.
Mark is doing some amazing research to try and discover the various causes for preterm delivery; and from there what may prevent it. He is supported by some of his patients who have moving stories to tell.
So back to the Charity dinner. As you may know, I am a 'cancer survivor' (very P.C.) and I have learnt not to take today for granted. I am trying to say yes to every opportunity and experience. So I found myself signing up to this and also cajoling Meekai into it.
Now 12 weeks away from The Big Climb, I am ruing the day I did this. I'm dreading it (exhaustion, cold, no showers, sleeping in tents.....holes for toilets.....) but also incredibly excited that I will be raising money for an amazing charity. And also climbing the highest mountain in Africa: something I didn't dare do when I was well, but that I have the guts to do now I have cancer. I made a commitment and I'm determined to see it through.
So please give what you can! and Thank you thank you again!!
