Story
We've all got New Years Resolutions - what's yours? (the innocent question)
Rather than giving something up an opportunity was presented to do something good and to my surprise the whole family was in support of my impromptu idea of cycling coast to coast across America for charity. (great idea)
So now I'm flying out to Seattle on 3rd May 2015 (bad timing as the Tour de Yorkshire passes through Ilkley that day but still, I'll have my own tour to think about). I need to be back in the UK by the end of June as my pass will be beyond expiry then.
THE TRIP
- 4,500 miles (ish) (over 7,000k sounds even better)
- approx. 150,000 feet of climbing (that's Everest from sea level 5 times)
- 1.5million pedal strokes (my Dad's first words when telling him the plan was I better get some good chamois cream)
- 1 good excuse for a new bike
- 11 maps from Adventure Cycling Association http://www.adventurecycling.org/routes-and-maps/adventure-cycling-route-network/interactive-network-map/
- 15 states to cycle through starting in Washington State and ending in Maine (West to East)
- 4 time zones whilst pedalling
- 50 big breakfasts (I hope)
- 4 panniers to fit all the gear in
- temperatures ranging from freezing up to 25-30 degrees C
