I first heard of Polar Academy when I took my 7 year old daughter to a talk held by founder Craig Mathieson. We were both so impressed by Craig and even more so by the 3 young people aged between 14-16 that he bought with him and who presented...

They were kids, like many others - invisible at school and dragging their way through their mid teens. Polar Academy was set up to install a sense of confidence and a "nothing is impossible" attitude into kids such as this. Having been through a gruelling assessment, these kids had trained for the best part of a year, culminating in a life changing trip to reach the North Pole, pulling all their kit as part of a teenage team with adult supervision. 

The difference in these kids between starting the process and returning home was truly remarkable. The kids are then duty bound to go out and speak to a minimum 3,000 kids over the next year at schools and clubs and share with them their experience; what it taught them about being able to rise above expectation, take control of their destinies and reach their maximum potential. 

The other striking aspect of the charity is the amazingly positive impact on the greater family - helping marriages and other every day family challenges. Each child going through this experience contributes nothing financially and the 17,000 GBP cost per child is funded entirely though donation.
