I am raising money for THE FIONA DOLAN FUND and you can read a little about the charity below:
This fund has been set up in memory of the late Dr Fiona Dolan, formerly specialist registrar in Ophthalmology, Glasgow. Fiona died in December 2007 after a long fight against a brain tumour. In response to the overwhelming response from her family, friends and colleagues, a fund has been set up to channel donations into a cause close to Fiona’s heart.
Fiona was always very interested in using her medical skills to help people in developing countries. Before training as a doctor, she spent a summer working in a Mother Theresa hospital in Bombay, an experience which she found very rewarding and inspiring. She often talked about using her Ophthalmology training to help do some cataract or trachoma work in a developing country. Having 4 children had put this ambition on hold but in the weeks before she was diagnosed with a brain tumour Fiona was in fact planning when she would be able to go out to help on a trachoma or cataract camp in Africa. Funding Ophthalmology colleagues to do more of these camps is very much in line with her wishes.
