Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Finally, after months of deliberation, I have taken the plunge and signed up for the Reading half marathon and now - in setting up this page - I am actually committing to running the thing - all 13 miles of it. For anyone who knows me, the idea of running 13 metres, let alone 13 miles fills me with dread but this is something I really do want to do.
I am running this half marathon in memory of my mother and to raise money for the Woking Hospice - a quite wonderful facility which she helped set up and open in 1996 before working as matron and then director of nursing for 15 years. She then sadly - after almost a decade long battle with cancer - spent the last few days of her life there being cared for by the amazing people who used to be her colleagues.
Those last few days were as you can imagine truly heartbreaking but the fact she was at the Woking Hospice - a place which she had put blood, sweat and tears into helping establish and then making a success - made it just that little bit easier.
It is a truly wonderful facility that provides so many people with amazing care at such a difficult time - I would love nothing more than to raise some money for them just as a thank you for how they looked after mum in her final days.
So anything you can donate would be truly appreciated. Thank you all very much.
Charles
PS. I have to quickly point out that my wife and I are expecting our second child on March 18th - Obviously that is two weeks before race day. On the off chance that she goes fully overdue and she is in labour during the race and I can't run, I promise to do the very next half marathon I can.
