We support the work of Royal Papworth Hospital as the UK’s leading centre of excellence for the treatment and diagnosis of cardiothoracic disease, to provide additional amenities for our patients and their families and to fund Papworth’s pioneering research activity and vision for the future.

Story

Hi, I'm Charley. If you haven't heard of me, I go to New Hall School, I'm in year 7 and I'll be 12 in July. (And I LOVE swimming!) Our swimming team is called "Charley and the Old Speedos", because there is Charley (me) and a bunch of old dudes! (And dudesses if you count my aunt.)

At some point between 29th July and 6th August, we will be attempting to swim from Dover to France. 22 miles in very cold water (about 16 degrees), and no wetsuits are allowed! There are 6 of us in the team. Me, Jon Spriggs (my dad), Amanda Goodman (my aunt), Nick White (my uncle), Nick Hunt (from Chelmsford Swimming Club) and Adrian Boehler (my dad's work mate) and we will be taking turns one hour each, until we get there.

I want to raise money for Papworth Hospital Charity, because my grandad had lung cancer (having never smoked in his life), but the people there helped him. Unfortunately, he was still in hospital on his birthday (and still ill at Christmas) but with the help of Dr Gilligan and Mr Wells, they removed the lung and saved his life! Please help me to save other people's lives like his!
