I have suffered from Type 1 Diabetes and it's complications, since the age of 9. In 2004, I went into Renal Failure and had to go onto Dialysis in 2005. In 2006, I was lucky to receive a Simultaneous Kidney and Pancreas Transplant.I thought all my problems were finally over.Unfortunately, the damage already done to my body could never be undone.
In 2007, my left leg needed to be amputated below the knee. I was fitted with a prosthetic leg and made a good recovery.
2012 was a bad year! In June, I had my right leg amputated below the knee. Again, I was fitted with a prosthetic leg and made a good recovery. I was back up and walking by November. In December, my transplanted Pancreas failed. I returned to giving myself Insulin injections and went back onto the Transplant Waiting List.
On February 6th 2014, I got the phone call to go to Oxford for a 2nd Pancreas Transplant. I spent 5 weeks in hospital.
Now it's time to press on with more challenges.
