Melanie Irwin is raising money for Hospice UK
In memory of Jenny Brightling
Hospice care eases the physical and emotional pain of death and dying. Letting people focus on living, right until the end. But too many people miss out on this essential care. Hospice UK fights for hospice care for all who need it, for now and forever.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I think about my Godmother Jenny every day and miss her lots, sadly she died too young from cancer & she was very very special to me.

I decided to grow my hair during lockdown so that my hair could be used to make wigs for those having treatment for cancer who, have lost their own hair.

I am hoping that I can also raise some extra money for the hospice for having my hair cut.  The hospice in St Leonard’s, Hastings took such good care of Jenny during her final days with us.

It’s not been easy growing my hair, I have been constantly teased, called names and bullied just because my hair started to look different from the other boys. Some days I would be so miserable when I came home from school because I was called a girl, ballerina, mop head, etc, my mum would ask me “do you want me to cut your hair”, but I just thought of Jenny & said “No”

It’s horrible losing someone you love to cancer, but I am proud I have not let the bullies beat me, I have done something that would have made Jenny proud & will hopefully change someone’s life.

From Charlie, stay strong 💕
