2018 Hackney Half · 20 May 2018 ·

We're a youth club which has been supporting the Hackney community since 1929. Our aim is to act as a resource for children and young people by providing advice and offering programmes of physical, educational and other activities as a means of relieving unemployment and advancing education.

Story

For this year's Hackney Half Marathon I am running it for The Pedro Youth Club.

I’ve been boxing there for over 3 years now and seen the amazing work they do to give young girls and guys in Hackney access to sport, education and cultural activities.

It is an amazing place that brings so many characters together and purpose and ambition for young people in Hackney - something massively needed in the current times.

The youth club is run by volunteers and headed up by James Cook who not only was the European & British super-middleweight champion but received an MBE in 2007 for his youth work through the club.

As always ever penny counts so whatever you can spare would be hugely appreciated.

The Pedro Club

Based in one of the most challenging and deprived areas of London, the Pedro Club in Hackney has been supporting the community since 1929. Former British and European Super-Middleweight Champion James Cook runs the club, and was awarded an MBE for his services to youth justice in Hackney. Our amazing team of volunteers run programmes of physical and educational activities which we believe help to relieve unemployment, advance education and improve health within the surrounding area.
