As many of you already know I, Charlie Hewson, have a prosthetic leg. This was due to having Cancer as a little baby. I had rotationplasty surgery at 15 months old and at 20 months old got my 1st prosthetic leg.
It didn’t take me long to get used to and 8 years later - with the help of the Brighton Prosthetic Rehabiltation Centre I am flying ! I play football for England amputee juniors and Brighton & Hove Albion amputee juniors and me and my friend Owen play for Lindfield under 9’s.
This is all thanks to the fact I have received the best support and prosthetic legs for Sport. I am lucky but children in parts of Africa are not always so fortunate. Child Amputees in Africa often don’t have access to the facilities and products to get them walking and running.
A few months ago I decided to donate some of my second hand prosthetic legs to children through legs4africa charity. The prosthetic doctors can use the component parts to give another child the chance to walk and play sports like I had - please help this charity to give children a chance.
In August me and my friend Owen Ellis (I need my buddy for support!) will be taking part in a children’s triathlon at Lake Dorney I’m Windsor. We’ll be swimming 150 metres in the lake, doing a 3km bike ride a 1km run. It’s going to be tough but we’ll give it all we have ! Please consider sponsoring us and help us to help other children get the same chances.
Thank you and wish us luck
Charlie and Owen
