Reading to children in Africa · 17 May 2017

It’s a well-known fact that poverty stems from lack of education. Literacy rates in sub-Saharan Africa are as low as 15% which means that education for many children is just not happening. The Book Bus gets children reading so they can climb onto the learning ladder and improve their chances in life

Story

I'm a Librarian who works in a School Library. I will be travelling to Livingstone, Zambia, for one month during the Summer Holidays (from the 20th July to the 19th August) to help children to learn to read in English with Baby Bear, an Eton College Teddy Bear.
I think that education and reading are keys for a better future.
Giving my time to help these children is important to me personally and as a Librarian. After all, giving access to books and education, to knowledge and information is an important part of the mission of libraries, according to UNESCO.
