Virgin London Marathon 2013 · 21 April 2013 ·

We believe every moment matters so we go above and beyond to help our patients and their families make the most of every moment they have left. All our services are free of charge. We receive a 26% of our funding from the NHS and rely on donations to raise the extra £12m we need each year.

Story

Hi Everyone,

So, after watching friends of mine run in the London Marathon for the last 2 years running I have decided it's time to be on the other side of the barriers! I'm absolutely terrified by the prospect of having to run 26 miles in one day but I'm doing it for a fantastic cause.

The charity is called Trinity Hospice, it provides skilled, compassionate end of life care to individuals and support for families in our central and south west London community.
Many of their patients will have cancer but others will have long term conditions such as heart failure, lung or neurological conditions including motor neurone disease or multiple sclerosis. It’s the needs of the patient and their family that matter to Trinity, not the diagnosis.
Sometimes people think that by ‘end of life’ it means the last few weeks of a person’s life. This simply isn’t the case – Trinity encourages early referrals so that they can get to know their patients as individuals and help them to live life to the full for whatever time is left – that might be a year or more, months or weeks.

Their services include nursing and medical care, emotional and practical support, welfare advice, occupational and physiotherapy, complementary therapies, spiritual care and creative activities. They care for people in their own homes and through non-residential and inpatient services in modern, welcoming facilities at our Clapham centre.

As you can see it's a fantastic charity and one that I couldn't be prouder to be supporting. Long distance running really isn't my thing- and whether I have to run, walk, crawl or be dragged accross the finishing line I'm determined to do it! So please spare a little thought for me on the 21st April when I embark on this huge challenge and, if you can, donate however little or large in support of this great charity. I will be eternally grateful!

Many thanks and best wishes to you all
