Story

Sadly, our Dad died on the 28th January. Unfortunately, due to covid we have been restricted on numbers at the funeral. This will be taking place on Wednesday 3rd March, 12 noon at Kimpton church. If anyone would like to pay their respects, we will be meeting the hearse at Kimpton Memorial Hall just before 12, it will then travel along the high street to the church, so feel free to stand at the Memorial Hall or anywhere on route.

I am sure you will all agree that our Dad was quite a character! He was hilariously funny, loud, loving, caring and a little bit annoying! We so loved him for all of these reasons. Growing up our house was filled with laughter, chaos, music, excitement, never a dull moment! Us kids were truly lucky to have the coolest parents in town! Dad loved family life, working and of course cleaning. We weren’t allowed to put our ‘dirty mitts’ anywhere, if we dared touch a window, the Mr Muscle would be out in seconds! He was a jack of all trades and could sell anything! We loved his carefree attitude and his gift to make anyone laugh! Even the most miserable person! He was daring and a risk taker! I’ve already heard lots of people say that they remember him selling all the Asics sports wear out the back of his van. As kids we remember the excitement of him coming home with these huge bags of sportswear, and us fighting over the best shell suits and trainers! Until we all wanted to wear Nike! He would quite often have about 4 jobs on the go to support our big family. He also loved sport and was always playing badminton and tennis. We remember the cricket theme song at the weekends where our tv would go up full blast volume and he would conduct us kids along to the tune while he took the lead with Henry’s drumsticks!

Sadly, after being a workaholic and a family man all his life, things took a turn for the worse in his late 40’s and after having never touched drugs in his life, he became a victim of addiction. This sent our family into turmoil trying desperately to help him. Instead of flowers at his funeral we would like to raise some money for NOAH Enterprise. They helped our Dad over the years while he was at his worst on the streets of Luton. NOAH Enterprise ‘recognise and respect the fundamental dignity and worth of every individual, and wish to support them in improving their life quality’.

Homelessness can be misunderstood, people can fall on hard times through no fault of their own and before they know it, are in a very desperate situation. Maybe that person is someone’s brother, sister, husband or son, and maybe they once lived a very different life. That one meal, or shower, or place to stay for a night with the help of Noah could brighten their mood for just a few hours. Having this support over time could lead them on the right path to a brighter future. Now that’s a worthy cause!
