Here is a little information of why I am doing this.
The pituitary gland - also called the master gland - is attached to the base of your brain, just at the bridge of your nose and controls several other hormone glands within your body including the thyroid and adrenal glands. Tumours can occur on the gland and cause issues such as pressure on the optic nerves for visual impairment, hormone changes that can affect other systems such as the production of adrenaline, growth changes amongst other issues including psychological. Treatments are available such as hormone therapy, surgery, and radiotherapy along with support groups, special nurses and helplines to call during the process.
My dad was diagnosed with a tumour on his pituitary gland when I was around 10 years old and it made a massive impact on my family unit. The tumour grew to about the size of an orange and caused many health issues. Surgery is possible on these tumours, however my dads had wrapped around his optic nerve and therefore had a risk of making him blind if it was removed. Currently he still has the tumour and is doing everything to try to control it and the side effects caused by it but this long journey still isn't over yet.
I am shaving my hair off ONLY if I get past the £1500 mark, as this charity is so vital for the continued research and support for those who are suffering with issues related to their pituitary, that I want to raise as much as I possibly can. They offer amazing support and research into this cause and ways to cope with the condition. After seeing my dad, along with others I know including my stepdad, suffer from this I know how it can affect people and would really appreciate your support in raising money for this amazing charity.
