ABP Southampton Half Marathon 2019 · 5 May 2019 ·
Hi all,
I am running my first half marathon and as someone who has spent more time on their butt in recent years than on their feet, the 13.1 miles will be a bit of a challenge.
I am doing this because 1 in 4 will experience a mental health problem in their lifetime. There are thousands and thousands of people affected every day and with every donation, Mind works towards making sure nobody has to suffer a mental health problem alone. It is estimated that only 25% of individuals receive support each year, with 50% having to wait over 3 months for talking therapy.
Mind has a range of guidance and information for those suffering with mental health problems as well as their families and friends. I have recently become more aware of the significant impact mental health can have and how it can affect anyone, including your closest loved ones. Mental illness tries to isolate and break down individuals and I have seen how difficult it can be for people to open up about their thoughts and feelings. Mind’s collaboration with Time to Change alongside Rethink Mental Illness is an example of how important awareness of mental health is in providing the support and respect that many deserve, and starting the conversation about mental health.
Please donate anything you can, whether it is £2 or £10, I would be so grateful for anything that will contribute to raising awareness and helping provide more information and services to thousands of people in the UK. Your donations will help Mind to be there for more people with mental health problems and to educate and support the workplace, schools and society in general to work towards better mental health for all.
