Having lost family members and seeing friends suffer from cancer I have choosen to take the 3 peaks on again this year having "enjoyed" the challenge last year and managing to raise over £728 for cancer research.
We started Ben Nevis @ 13:45 on the 21st May 2011 and completed it in 5 and a half hours which would of been at least 30mins sooner if my walking boots hadn't had a catastrophic failure half way up and half way down!
We got to the bottom of Scar Fell Pike @ 01:00 but due to the weather conditions at the time we decided to sleep for an hour or so to see if the rain stopped luckily it did at 02:00, not long after we set off. We made it to the top after a number of consultations with the map and the GPS as in the dark we missed the path and were directionally challenge for a while, but we made it down ok, tired, sore and not particularly thrilled that we still had Snowdon to go but all in one piece which was the important bit!
We arrived at Snowdon @ 12:00 with little enthusiasm but decided it was only one last push! We made it to the top at a steady but slow pace while Dave’s dog (Bob) did the mountain at least 3 times! I have to say Snowdon was not fun or enjoyable in any way. The last 1/4 was very painful with multiple blisters on both feet and sore legs but once up you have to come back down! The most depressing part was watching all the other people over take us on the way down as if they were just on a morning stroll!
This Year I’m taking on the challenge again with the University Centre Yeovil team again and as before I’m just aiming to survive the experience but also hopefully beat last year’s time of 28hrs 7 seconds!
