Story
Hi there It's me Chelsea.
As many of you know I have lost my dad to suicide and my dear brother. This has deeply affected us and has transformed our lives.
My dad was in his 30s ( gosh I can't remember how old he was, he always used to say it was rude to ask lol) and Josh my dear brother was only twenty when he sadly took his own life.
Why the head shave?
Well those of you who knew my brother personally knew he always rocked a shaved head unless of course due to depression he didn't cut it for a while and grew that massive beard lol, unfortunately I'm not capable of growing a beard so what a better way to raise funds in his memory than to chop my hair off. ( he would be laughing).
Why now? Why in 2020?
Well this year most definitely has been one to remember, due to COVID-19, Local lockdowns and social distancing. We have found ourselves more isolated than ever, mental health support is needed now more than ever, and for those who have been affected by the loss of a loved one to suicide, changes to how we can celebrate those lost has been profound.
Here is a brief summary of the challenges faced from Pete's Dragons themselves:
CV19 has left us in a similar situation to most other charities, fundraising has come to a near standstill and where we used to generate our own income though training and our retail outlet, both have sustained a severe downturn. We have found that the recovery time for a beneficiary at this time is longer and the amount they need our service has increased. We are also beginning to see an increase in demand.
Despite the difficulties around funding our suicide bereavement support service has remained open and available throughout the pandemic and will continue to do so. It is in some cases we are the only constant people have. People who are already extremely vulnerable.
I hope that you can all donate to the cause no matter how big or small every single penny counts during this time.
The head shave will take place on mine and Joshes favourite holiday together. Halloween.
So join me in fundraising for this amazing charity who offer so much support, and see my husband shave my head on the 31st October 2020.
