Story
Chernobyl Children's Lifeline Charity West Kent Link (Reg no. 1014274).
It has been 33 years since the disaster at Chernobyl but unfortunately, many children are still being admitted to the Oncology and Haematology hospital in Minsk (the only hospital in Belarus)!
Children are being affected by many types of cancer but specially thyroid cancer, leukemia and other complex blood problems. There are not enough doctors or nurses so families become nurses to look after their children; there are not enough beds, so many children are sent home or stay in a small caravan outside the hospital and there is insufficient medical equipment for doctors to do their job efficiently.
Due to Coronavirus we are now raising money to bring at least 6 Belarussian children next summer 2021 in remission from cancer and blood problems to the West Kent area for a recuperative holiday, to stay with host families for 2 weeks.
Bringing the children to the UK for 2 weeks or more reduces the radiation levels in their bodies through inhaling fresh air and a change of diet. The potassium in bananas is especially helpful in excreting radiation thus providing a much needed boost to their immune system.
The benefits of a trip to Kent is not only an improvement in health and well-being for the child but also for the parents and siblings who are often in the role of carer.
Even a small amount can go a long way.
Many thanks,
Anastasiya
