Hello I'm Cheryl

Wife to Russ and mum of two beautiful daughters, Bethany and Jessica.

I have been a runner for 20 years, I have challenged myself with many races. At the age of 44 I wanted the ultimate challenge of an Ultra Marathon, a 56 mile trail run from Worcester to Stonehouse with the Ultra Running Severn Way challenge.

My eldest daughter Bethany, suggested that I should raise money for a charity. Beth refers to herself as “alternative” dressing the way she likes in her own special way, we all love her quirky individuality and positive self esteem, being the perfect role model for her younger sister. 

She suggested I run for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation who raise awareness to stamp out the prejudice intolerances of how individuals choose to dress or express themselves. Sophie was murdered for being different, for what she looked like.

I have experienced myself the kind of reaction from all ages and genders Bethany experiences, the positive and the negative just for what she looks like. As a parent this is hard, however her attitude is to let it go over her head, "mum, its there problem not mine"

This shows us her maturity and intellect of the amazing human she is. However the minority that think it’s acceptable need to be educated on awareness, victim impact, equality and diversity and inclusion.

So for all those who dare to be different, for you and your families I shall be running for all of you to raise awareness and education funds for the Sophie Lancaster foundation.
