17.09.11: on the train on the way up to Newcastle to run 13.1 miles in the Great North Run tomorrow with Mum! Thank you so so much to those who have helped us raise money for the Royal Marsden Cancer so far. Having joined the Sisterhood last year I took part in my first Hood adventure on12th June 2011, the Venice Vogolonga. Hundreds of boats made their way round a 32km route through Venice & the lagoon. Our 2 Hood dragon boats completed the course after over 4 hours of hard paddling!
In a further fundraising effort I will be taking part in the BUPA Great North Run on 18th September with my Mum. Whilst travelling around Cental America this summer I've been dragging myself out of bed early in the morning to run before it gets too hot for half marathon training!
Then the following weekend (24/25th September) I will be on another Sisterhood escapade walking 57 miles of Hadrians Wall dressed as a Roman!
The Sisterhood was launched in 2006 after a drunk bet with a group of overly competitive alpha males to race across the English Channel, they successfully completed this and smashed the world record in the process. The Hood are a team of over 60 aspirational women from a variety of professions and sporting backgrounds, ranging from professional athletes to women who haven’t taken part in sport for over 10 years.The Sisterhood are united in their goal to raise £50,000 per year for The RoyalMarsden Cancer Campaign and to date have raised over £250,000. They’ve spent the past 4 years taking part in jungle adventure races, triathlons, dragon boat regattas, amazon raft races, swimming seas, running ultra marathons, climbing kilimanjaro,ironmen races and various other races around the world .
