My local nature reserve (LNR) Wormwoods Scrubs is under significant threat from the construction work underway for the multi-billion pound HS2 rail line project (allegedly aimed at saving only 15-30 mins on journey times). This is the largest green space in my borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. It’s been a much-needed haven for fresh air, outdoor exercise and all-round sanity, especially in the last year alone - a difficult time for many. My dog loved the Scrubs (R.I.P Teddy) and my family and I have always felt so grateful to have this right on our doorstep. It’s like a bit of countryside in our corner of London and it’s home to many beautiful species of migrant birds and butterflies, lizards and badgers, some I’ve never even heard of and might still never get the chance to if their natural habitats are destroyed.
