Story

Abit about us and why I am raising money for PSDS

Elsie was a very much wanted baby after a successful IVF journey, we welcomed Elsie into the world in 2014. At birth we got the unexpected news that Elsie had Downs syndrome, I won’t lie but my heart broke more so for the unknown, and fear of what I thought ‘Down syndrome’ would be for Elsie growing up. Groups like PSDS have been a lifesaver for our family and others, not only are they working hard to show that our children can achieve great things in life they have introduced us to an incredible community of families and specialist therapists that support Elsie and us as a family.

Elsie attended weekly therapy sessions the year leading up to her starting reception with specialist speech therapist, occupational therapy, and early years teacher. At these groups I have met friends for life who completely understand what life is like with a child with special needs, supporting when days are difficult and celebrating the successes when milestones are reached.

Now Elsie is in mainstream school PSDS provide a school support service where a specialist teacher with incredible knowledge of teaching a child with Down syndrome is there as a support to the school advising and actions school visits to help Elsie thrive in the school environment. We get help and advice with EHCP’s, DLA, and all the other pages and pages of paperwork and assessments that can be quite overwelming and stressful at times.

There’s lots of fun clubs and events ( when covid doesn’t get in the way) for Elsie to attend too which includes weekly Drama, and when she’s a tiny bit older High 5 youth club which teaches key life skills to all the young members.

I can’t wait for PSDS to get their own Premises,  their plans are so exciting and gives me so much comfort that as Elsie grows up the support from PSDS will continue to help her live a full and independent life just like anyone else.

If you can donate to help me reach my target big or small it will help me run that 26.2 miles across the week virtually and help Psds continue to help children with Down syndrome reach their full potential! I’m actually worrying how i’m going to do it. Training starts now!
