Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. My name is Chris, and I'm doing this together with my friends and work colleagues Harry, Melissa, Dan, Elliot and Chloe. We thought it would be good to get together on our own and help raise money for World Obesity Day to help fight the global obesity crisis, which, as we've come to learn through the work we do, is a very important fight for all of humanity.

We work for a company called Discovery Learning that trains people to be personal trainers, the kind who specialize in working with obese and seriously overweight individuals who have been referred to them by local doctors.

Through observing the individuals we train and send out into the fitness industry, we've witnessed the terrible toll that obesity has taken on the lives of the people they've been charged with helping, and it concerns us that the number of obese people in the world is still getting bigger, not smaller.

Obesity is a disease, and like other diseases, it can be cured, but doing so requires a combination of intense exercise and a strict diet devoid of processed foods. In order to achieve this transformation, obese people have to have the courage to seek help from someone like a fitness trainer, dietitian, or other health professional.

The organization we work for has been part of numerous think tanks and has consulted the UK government on various strategies to conduct weight management interventions in communities with some of the highest obesity rates in the UK.

Some of their senior staff sat on the panel that formulated the recently announced government plan to send obese people and overweight people with type 2 diabetes on courses of personal training sessions funded by the UK National Health Service.

We've seen our organisation and many other organisations do a lot of good things to help tackle obesity, but we, the people of the world, can't rely just on governments and corporations to win this battle for us. Obesity is everyone's potential problem, so  we all have to do our bit.

That means as well as taking care of our own bodies, those of us with children have to make sure they eat healthily and get plenty of exercise. Many individuals become overweight or obese during childhood and remain that way throughout their lives.

The World Obesity Federation, which organizes World Obesity Day, is probably the single most important non-governmental entity in the world's fight against obesity. It does much to improve the lives of obesity sufferers and to prevent the spread of obesity by raising awareness of nutrition, the importance of exercise, and the dangers of continuous consumption of unhealthy foods.

We urge everyone who sees this page to donate something to support this fantastic organisation in the amazing and crucial work it is doing to tackle the worldwide obesity crisis.

Thank you for your time.
