Story
Chris Foxton and a team of Hinckley fundraisers, including former rugby international and Tigers player Dean Richards are gearing up to cycle 300 miles to help a group of young disabled people from Leicestershire take part in a tall ship sailing adventure.
20 riders from the Hinckley area call themselves the Gravity Fundraisers will cycle from the Alps to the Pyrenees to try to raise £35,000 for the Jubilee Sailing Trust.
The ride begins with the legendary alpine climb to the peak of Mont Ventoux and finishes 3 days and 300 miles later with the Ax Bonascre ascent in the Pyrenees.
Mont Ventoux has become legendary as the scene of one of the most gruelling climbs in the Tour de France bicycle race. Its fame as a scene of great Tour dramas has made it a magnet for cyclists around the world.
The Gravity Fundraisers aim to raise enough funds to send a minimum of twenty physically disabled people from the West Leicestershire area on a four day, adventure of a life time. They will be taken on board one of the Jubilee Sailing Trust tall ships for a four day sail somewhere around the British coast. They will not only experience what a tall ship is all about but be able to man the ship, climb the main sail and weigh anchor. All of this can happen because each of the JST boats have been specially adapted to accommodate physically disabled people as well as able bodied people.
The JST is a registered charity that owns and operates Lord Nelson and Tenacious, the only two tall ships in the world designed and built to enable people of all physical abilities to sail side-by-side as equals Please have a look at their website www.jst.org.uk
