Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The money raised will go towards the Burton Scanner Appeal - they only need about £90,000 more!!!

I've only done one marathon before - several years ago at Leicester in 3 hours 40 minutes. I'm hoping to do better this year - although my plans were set back by a calf muscle tear which meant that I had to have 3 weeks with no training at the end of January...

3/3/11 - Training is going quite well - up to just over 15 miles and averaging about seven and a half minutes per mile.. but that is getting harder now! Running the Ashby 20 in 2 weeks - which will be a good trial!

13/3/11 - Ashby 20 - a twenty mile run - about 850 competitors. The winning time was about 1 hour 49 minutes (I don't understand how people can run that fast for so long!!!). My time was a more sedate 2 hours 29 minutes - so sticking to the seven and a half minutes per mile. If I did that for the marathon I would manage 3 hours 17 minutes... but my legs certainly couldn't have gone another 6 miles today!

27th March - Ran to Dovedale - 24 plus miles (with detour!) - really a nice run along country lanes - but the hills a bit steep towards the end! But at least I know I can do the distance... not sure how fast though!

17th April - London Marathon - slow time (3.75 hours) but great experience! 26.2 miles with support all the way! Very hot - so I probably went too fast for the first half (97 minutes) - so really tired in the second half (over 2 hours!) - had to walk sometimes - unheard of for me! But I would do it again - given the chance!

A big thank you to those patients from Gordon Strett surgery who are sponsoring me there and also for sending in donations which I have added to the website here..

So thank you to all those who have sponsored me - a CT scanner will help the hospital diagnose and treat cancer better, as well as helping diagnose and treat broken bones, strokes and heart and lung conditions faster. Every little helps!!
