Story
In Memory of Guardsman Mathew Talbot
During the period of March and June 2019 I had the privilege of working with African Parks in Liwonde National Park situated in Malawi. I have been working as a medic with the 1st Battalion the Coldstream Guards and in Malawi our job was to mentor and train the Rangers in Counter Poaching Operations. The work involved dangerous operations capturing and deterring poachers in volatile environments surrounded by dangerous animals which we are all trying to protect.
The work is countering the Illegal Wildlife Trade from the hunting for bush meat, Ivory, fishing and illegal logging. On the 5th May 2019 one of our Coldstreamers, Guardsman Mathew Talbot was killed by an Elephant whilst patrolling. My fund raising will be in memory of him and his bravery during our work there and will go towards medical packs for the Rangers working for the charity 'African Parks'. We have been teaching advanced medical skills so that the Rangers are as well prepared as possible and these medical packs will enable them to conduct this treatment if needed.
My Fund Raiser
The Mont Blanc Summit is Western Europe’s highest mountain reaching the height of 4,810m. The summit day will be on Monday the 9th September 2019 taking a total of three days to achieve. However, there will be 8 days spent building up to this in Switzerland working on climbing and rope skills, crevasse rescue and acclimatising. It will be both a challenge of endurance and technical ability and I would appreciate any support that you can give.
My Other Fund Raisers
I will also be running the Ealing half Marathon to raise funds for this cause. I will be running this on the 29th September 2019.
On Saturday the 19th October 2019 I will be competing in the Windsor and Eaton Brewery runfest Half Marathon.
Then finally on the 23rd November 2019 I will compete in the Spartan stadium race in Twickenham stadium.
Please could you share this and encourage all of your contacts to donate.
The money raised will be put towards providing medical packs for the rangers so that they are well equipped for the dangers that they face during their daily patrols. Each Medical Pack Costs $250. My goal is to raise enough for 10 Advanced medical packs.
Thank you for your generosity towards this important cause. It will have a huge impact.
