Story

The Kenyan Orphan Project was founded in 2001 by 3 medical students at Nottingham University, with the aim of fighting poverty, disease and injustice for orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya. Nearly thirteen years on, KOP still stands true to its original values.

We are a team of medical students from Nottingham University volunteering for KOP this summer. With your help we plan to directly support the KOP projects actively running in in western Kenya. The projects aim to support orphaned and vulnerable children and improve their health and lives not just in medicine but in basic freedoms - from disease and poor sanitation, from improved education and illiteracy, from economic and financial hardship, from gender and social inequality and from oppression and war.

Students must pay for the trip themselves so that the entire £800 raised can support the projects.

·      Kenya is a country with over 7 million primary school-aged children who face significant challenges due to poor health and disease.

·      Around 2,500,000 children in Kenya have lost one or both parents from poverty and AIDS.

·      In Kenya your donation goes a long way. £25 can provide school meals for 3 children for a whole month!

KOP works with local partner organisations to improve children’s access to nutrition, health and education and give them a chance to lift themselves out of poverty.

Please DONATE NOW so KOP Nottingham can continue supporting these children.

I hope to help the children in whatever way I can, through explaining basic health topics in both lessons and games with the emphasis mainly on playing. I will contribute to the daily running of the projects, for example by helping with gardening, cooking, cleaning and serving the children. They may even let me do some decorating, if they dare!
