The Homeless World Cup Foundation is a unique, pioneering charity which uses football to inspire homeless people to change their own lives. We support grassroots football programmes and social enterprise development through a network of more than 70 Street Football Partners. We provide a focus for—and celebration of—their year-round activity by organising and delivering an annual, world-class, international football tournament for national teams of men and women who are homeless. Since 2001, we have been committed to “changing the lives of people who are homeless through football.” Today, the work of our movement is varied and extensive - from building awareness about homelessness and raising funds for our activities, to organising our annual Homeless World Cup tournament. The Homeless World Cup Tournament is our flagship event. Delivered by the Homeless World Cup Foundation in co-ordination with a Local Organising Committee, the event brings together teams from all around the world for an inspiring week-long festival of football. Participating teams are managed by our Street Football Partners and are formed by men and women all of whom have experienced homelessness.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

You have probably heard by now that Matthew has completed the Edinburgh Marathon in aid of the The Homeless World Cup following his lead (no pun intended) I have stepped in (no pun intended) to take up the baton (no pun intended) and run up (no pun intended) some more funds for a worthy cause.

Every year homeless players from around the globe embark on a journey of profound transformation as they train to compete in this world-class football tournament. The impact is consistently significant with over 70% of competing players improving their living conditions by coming off drugs and alcohol, moving into jobs, education, homes, training, reuniting with families and even going on to become players and coaches for pro or semi-pro football teams.

For the 2010 event, 64 nations from around the globe will meet in Rio, Brasil, for a week-long festival of football. I want to support Matthew in his endeavours for The Homeless World Cup Foundation, and aim to raise £300 to pay towards a player to go to Rio and have a life-changing experience.
