I said I was hanging up my (sort of) competitive cycling shoes for good in 2008, but having suffered four years of derision from my club the Wilbarston Wobblers I will be coming out of retirement to ride with them in the 102 mile Century Challenge. This will take us from Neville Holt in Leicestershire to Brancaster in Norfolk, on 5th May.

I will be riding to raise money for Barnados and would be very grateful for any sponsorship you can spare.

The work Barnados do for disadvantaged children is outstanding. They no longer run Barnados Homes but now work exclusively in the community. The problems facing the children they work with are wide ranging: drug addiction, sexual exploitation, trafficking, homelessness, disability, young carers, education exclusion, fostering, racism, bullying, domestic violence, parents in jail...the list is endless
