The British Red Cross, a charity incorporated by Royal Charter 1908, helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. And when the crisis is over, we help them to recover and move on with their lives.

Story

A devastating earthquake hit Christchurch, New Zealand on 22 February 2011, killing over 100 people, with over 200 still missing and 2,500+ injured. There is widespread destruction, including homes, buildings and damage to roads and bridges.

The Red Cross responded immediately, sending emergency response teams to conduct search and rescue and provide first aid.

Around 2,000 people have been displaced and Red Cross teams are helping set up welfare centres and distributing blankets, water containers and tents to affected families.

Funds raised will be used towards the Red Cross response to the disaster, including transport and provision of goods.

We urgently need your help to support the relief effort, please donate today.

Please note: In the event that we receive donations after the New Zealand Red Cross has closed its appeal, any surplus funds will go to our Disaster Fund and be used to respond to future humanitarian disasters either overseas or here in the UK.
