North Devon Hospice provides free care and support to individuals and their loved ones who are faced with the impact of a life-threatening illness. Everyday we help over 100 people, either in their own homes or at Deer Park, completely free of charge.

Story

Chris was diagnosed with terminal cancer in April of 2017 and spent three amazing weeks in the North Devon Hospice with what can only be called the Hospice Hug before returning home to his family.

The hospice continued to support Chris and the family during the weeks that Chris was able to return home and also go out and about with them.

In July Chris was able to get married with the support of their village, community, friends and family and a truly memorable day was made, with some amazing memories for everyone.

Chris returned to the hospice on the Thursday 3rd of August where he lost his short battle with cancer on Tuesday 8th August with his wife and family with him.

Chris will be missed by many many people both family, friends and in his professional life.

The hospice have been there every step of the way for Chris and us as a family.  The hospice itself is a truly amazing place - it is a place of love, support, tranquility and laughter - a safe, homely, understanding place where there is always a hug waiting for anyone that needs it.

We feel privileged and honoured to have been able to spend the time that we did as a family and a couple at the hospice and I/We will always be enternally grateful to them for their love and support.

Our eldest son when explaining to someone where Dad was told them he is at the North Devon Hospice a place for some extremely unlucky people but also a place for some extremely privileged people (his own words at 13).
