Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Myself and my sister, Katherine, have decided to take part in an abseil from the famous Forth Rail Bridge (165ft!)  just outside of Edinburgh to raise money for the charity Health in Mind.

Health in Mind is a charity that is very important to me. I began working for them as a support worker, at the beginning of my career working in the area of mental health. Working in a Supported Living Service in Edinburgh I developed professionally, but also personally. My supervisor, colleagues, and the service users I worked with taught me valuable lessons about life, and looking after our own mental health. There are many relationships and interactions from this time that continue to come into my mind on a daily basis, and some which I will never forget. Health in Mind embodies the attitude to mental health that we should all strive to promote. Despite our differences, at the end of the day we are all the same. We are all human, and we all have mental health. At some time we all need someone to notice, to listen, and to extend a hand of help.

I now work as a Clinical Psychologist in the North East of England, and I see first hand every day the effects of under-funding on mental health services in the UK. More than ever we are reliant on charities like Health in Mind, to support the Mental Health provision provided by the struggling NHS. These resources are invaluable, and I hope that my fundraising might provide a small contribution to this.

I have never done a fundraising event before, or abseiled any more than a about 15ft when I was at Primary School! So any contributions to the fundraising, or words of encouragement, would be greatly appreciated!
