Cross Solent Swim Oct09 · 3 October 2009

Portsmouth and Southsea Voluntary Lifeguards provide a Voluntary Beach and Rescue Service for Southsea and the Solent area. The Club patrol from May to September, providing a declared facility to HM Coastguard for search and rescue activities. The organisation aims to promote the teaching and training of the Royal Life Saving Society for lifesaving and lifeguarding.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm planning to brave the cold waters and swim accross the solent from Gilkicker point to Ryde sands on the 3rd October 2009. Myself and 6 others will take to the water around 1500 and swim approx 3 miles across the solent, through one of the busiest shipping channels in the area.

Donations will go to Portsmouth Lifeguards, a charity I hold close to my heart, having been a lifeguard myself for over 10 years! If, through your kind donations I raise enough money I would like the lifeguards to purchase a surf rescue paddle board for the beach and a youth paddle board for training Rookie lifeguards. Paddle boards can cost up to £1000.

I have Kayaked across the solent previously for other swimmers but have never swum long distance in open water myself so this will be quite a challenge!
