I will be sleeping outside on the night of 12th January to raise money for the Northampton Hope Centre. I knew the centre existed but had never had any involvement with it as, like most people, I take my cosy, safe life for granted. Other than watching documentarys on tv I have never given homelessness much thought, other than to mutter "how awful it must be to be on the streets at Christmas" while eating as much chocolate & mince pies as I can! When I received the email asking for volunteers, I thought "yeh, why not...I'm up for that" & put my name forward....however, the reality is now sinking in & I can't say I'm not ermm...apprehensive..!?! I know that mental health problems is just one reason for being on the streets & apparently 1 in 4 people will suffer mental health issues at some time in their lives, so who can say I won't need the Hope Centre to help me or someone in my family? Thanks for taking the time to read this, wish me luck & please give what you can.........
