Story
Tom’s Trust provide vital psychological support to children with brain tumours and their families.
My family have benefited from this psychological support when my daughter, Freya, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2018 and relapsed in 2019 whilst on treatment. It is hard to explain the feeling of being told that your child has a life threatening brain tumour and then to relapse so soon. Access to psychological support is vital to enable you can remain strong for your child.
Tom’s Trust financially support Brainbow - the UK’s first specialist team of psychologists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists who’s aim is to ensure all children with brain tumours can reach their full potential. Tom’s Trust support the clinical psychologist, who not only help the child, but also the families who spend weeks and months bedside with their child, the support they offer to children and families alike is invaluable in helping the entire family, who are all psychologically effected. The psychologists are there from the time of diagnosis, throughout treatment and crucially, the care extends post treatment, which is unfortunately, when many of the after effects prevail.
As many of you know I love running! It has been one of my coping mechanisms throughout Freya’s treatment, but I am far from my peak! Running a half marathon again is a huge personal challenge and I’m aiming to run in under 2 hours.
All money raised will go direct to Tom’s Trust to help ensure children and families get the psychological support they need when going through a very difficult time.
