Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am travelling to Sicily on my own and will be taking part in challenging treks up Volcanoes including Mt Etna and the summit on the island of Strombolli. Mt Etna will be a challenging climb as the summit is 3350m.

I want to raise awareness and money for the charity DBA UK. DBA stands for Diamond Blackfan Anaemia which a condition my 8 yr old daughter was diagnosed with when she was 2yrs old. Ruby has been on steroids for the past 6yrs and now has regular blood transfusions to maintain a healthy blood count.

DBA is a rare blood condition were bone marrow fails to produce enough red blood cells. These red blood cells are essential for carrying oxygen around the body. This is often treated daily with steroids, or regular blood transfusions. If these fail to regulate the red blood cell amount, then a bone marrow transplant is required.

This condition is VERY RARE and there are only around 120 case of DBA in the UK.

Thank you for reading my story
