Story

My dear Dad was diagnosed with lung and bone cancer in late February 2015 and was moved to St Margaret's Hospice in Yeovil in early March.  His cancer is aggressive and it's heartbreaking to see him slipping away from us.

Lying in bed in the hospice Dad asked me to undertake one last project for him.

Dad has been heavily involved in Lithuania since being the first British Ambassador in Vilnius after the break up of the Soviet Union.  Since his retirement Dad has maintained close links with Lithuania - he has been Chairman of the British-Lithuanian Society and is currently Chairman of the Tiltas Trust (www.thetiltastrust.org), a charity focussing on, amongst other things, enhancing palliative care in Lithuania.  He was awarded the Grand Cross of Commander of the Order of Merits to Lithuania for his continued work in British-Lithuanian relations.

Every May a 10km run is held in Klaipeda (a port city on the coast of Lithuania) in order to raise funds for the St Francis Cancer Support Centre (http://www.onkocentras.lt/en/apie-sv-pranciskaus-onkologijos-centra/) which Dad is a Patron of and this year he has asked me to run in his memory.

I will be delighted to do this for Dad and, with the help of Rotary International, hope to raise as much money as possible for the St Francis Cancer Centre in Lithuania so that others who suffer from the terrible disease that is cancer can receive the love, care and support that not only Dad has been given, but also that Mum and I have received whilst he has been so well looked after in St Margaret's.
