Story

Toward the end of 2022 a very dear and lifelong friend of mine was suddenly and unexpectedly diagnosed with a rare nervous system disorder known as Guillian Barré syndrome.

This syndrome involves the body attacking the nervous system which leads to severe medical issues and is life threatening. Although most people will make a recovery within 6-12 months, Guillian Barré syndrome causes long term health challenges that require ongoing and intensive care. This can include physiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy.

The strength, bravery and determination of my friend, his family and loved ones during this time has been nothing short of inspirational. As many of you who know me are well aware I am no adrenaline junkie, however having witnessed my friend show bravery beyond my imagination it has compelled me to do something out of my comfort zone to try to help.

In an effort to raise money for GAIN (Guillian Barré & Associated Inflammatory Neuropathies) charity, I will be undertaking the CN Tower edge walk in Toronto on 6 May 2023 during GAIN awareness month. At 116 stories (1,156 feet) above the ground, this is the world’s highest full circle building walk and is certainly outside my comfort zone.

Please take a moment to have a look at the GAIN website (gaincharity.org.uk) to see all of the wonderful help they can provide to individuals and their families impacted by this terrible illness. If you would like to donate in support of this charity, or simply to see me scared senseless, any and all support is hugely appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and your kindness.
