Children in Crossfire was
founded 25 years ago, by a man named Richard moore, who was shot and blinded
when he was only 10 by a rubber bullet, but due to the support of his family
and community he was able to continue on with his education and have a normal
life, he realised in later life had he been born somewhere else how different
his life could have been and he founded children in crossfire to help children
maybe not caught in the crossfire of violence but caught in the crossfire of
poverty.

Over those 25 years Children
in Crossfire has helped millions of children and their families across the
world, however today are working in Tanzania & Ethiopia.

In Tanzania our Early
Childhood Education programme in Tanzania has been growing from strength to
strength and thankfully we are giving thousands of children who are growing up
in poverty the start in education they deserve.

In Tanzania many classrooms
have over 100 children in them, and they are often in broken down buildings
with little resources many are still too far for children to reach so they
don’t attend at all. Therefore, we are building new classrooms, training teachers,
resourcing their classrooms, providing sanitation facilities and ensuring
feeding programmes are in place.

We are now also in the early
stages of building a similar programme in Ethiopia,

Of course, we realise that
if a child is too hungry or sick they won’t be able to learn. Therefore, I want
to focus one of our programmes to prevent and treat malnutrition in Ethiopia,
where for many years now, we have worked with St Luke’s Catholic Hospital in
Wolisso.

Over those years, the lives
of more than 5,500 children have been saved. Through this partnership we have also
just built a pharmacy for the hospital and a deep water well ensuring that they
now have a clean year round water supply.  trained 240 Health extension Workers who go
out into rural communities to explaining the early signs and symptoms of
malnutrition so that children can be spotted and treated earlier.

When a child comes to the
hospital their treatment normally lasts around 20 days, and while they are
there one of their parents can stay with them & while there they receive
training on how to cook low cost nutritional food for their families, to
prevent this happening again. Often these parents go back and share this
information in their village and help even more children.

This is the work you will
support this year and your donations really do go a long way in Ethiopia– it
costs only 25 to provide this life saving treatment for a child in St Lukes.

Together we can keep making
a difference for thousands of vulnerable children.

Thank you so much for your
time.
