This year I have been individually chosen to represent Northumbria University at the IDEALS project in Zambia, as part of my University level 5 Placement.

The Zambia IDEALS project is an opportunity to work alongside the local community of Lusaka, in the Olympic Youth Development Centre. Through community sessions, the placement allows me to use sport as an educational tool to impact upon quality of life in the Zambian Community, that has often been affected by high levels of unemployment, drug and alcohol abuse, exclusion and many health risks, including that of HIV and AIDS.

Alongside the current academic knowledge I have built from university, this will give me a chance to put skills into practice, and gain valuable experience for my future career. Success in this position will allow me to develop core management skills such as planning events, networking and effective communication in language. The Zambia placement therefore is a perfect forum to start building skills to successfully progress in the sports management field, which will be a great addition to my CV, allowing me to stand out when applying for future job prospects.
