Citi Three Peaks Challenge · 8 June 2019

Place2Be is a children's mental health charity that works to improve the emotional wellbeing of children and young people. We help them to cope with wide-ranging and often complex social issues including bullying, bereavement, domestic violence, family breakdown, neglect and trauma.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm organising and taking part in a UK 3 Peaks Challenge over the weekend of 8th/9th June 2019 with a team of 11 colleagues from Citi for our wonderful corporate charity partner, Place2Be.

The challenge requires us all to scale the highest mountains in each of Scotland, England and Wales and complete all the travel between the mountains within the allotted time.  This will see us walk over 23 miles and ascend (and descend) over 10,000ft on foot and travel over 450 miles by road, all within 24 hours.

Place2Be is a great cause and provides much needed support for children with mental health problems where it is easiest for them to access it. One in eight children has a diagnosable mental health problem such as anxiety or depression – that’s three children in every classroom. 75% of lifetime mental health problems start before the age of 18. In spite of this only 6% of the UK's national mental health bill is spent on children. It is evident that children’s mental health support is an area which is too often overlooked.

Place2Be seek to redress this imbalance by providing mental health support to children when they need it most. They know that if we act early we can prevent mental health problems from having a lasting impact on children for the rest of their lives. Their services include school-based counselling for children, in-depth training programmes for school teachers and training for child mental health professionals.

Your support for this very important cause will make a huge difference to the lives of children and will give me much needed inspiration and motivation when slogging through the snow at the top of Ben Nevis on Saturday evening or up Scafell Pike in the middle of the night in the wee small hours of Sunday morning.

Thank you!
