Nystagmus means involuntary movements of the eye. It impairs vision, affecting focus and depth perception. At least 1 in 1,000 babies are born with nystagmus. There is currently no cure. The Nystagmus Network is a UK registered charity which provides support, raises awareness and funds research.

Story

I was diagnosed with Congenital Nystagmus from birth, a complex eye condition that can be characterised by involuntary movements of the eye that cannot be controlled.  In my case, it affects both eyes.  Nystagmus is caused by abnormal functioning
of the part of the brain that regulates eye movement and positioning.  Congenital Nystagmus is just one of the symptoms of Ocular Albinism which has been identified as the underlying trigger of my condition.

This condition has caused many barriers in my life, however, anybody that knows me will know that have not let it stop me perusing my goals in life and do not let it stand in my way.
Unfortunately my 5 year old son Zak has inherited Nystagmus from myself and I am really hoping that he will not let the condition hold him back in anyway
either.  He is an extremely lucky boy in that
he has a large amount of support and assistance at school to help alleviate any barriers that he may face in his learning and leading a normal school life.  When I was growing up, I had no such support or guidance, and as there is currently no treatment or cure for Nystagmus, this support is vital to Zak.  Knowing how
I struggled through school, and still struggle in certain situations in my life, I am extremely aware of the importance of the work that the charity Nystagmus Network carry out, providing support, raising awareness of the condition and funding vital
research.
If you can please donate anything you can to this fantastic charity, I would be extremely grateful.

Thank you for your kind support.
