Story

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page raising money for Katharine House Hospice in Stafford. The hospice provides free care services in Mid Staffordshire for people faced with an illness that cannot be cured.  Their aim is to enable patients to live as fully as possible and make the most of the time that they have left.  They offer hospice care at Katharine House as well as help if the patient wants to spend their last days at home.

Katharine House needs funds in order to continue the work they do.  In July 2015 I will be doing the Nijmegen March for Katharine House. The march, which takes place in Holland, is a yearly event and 'walkers' have to walk 100 miles ( 25 miles a day within a set time).  Nearly 42,000 people take part in the event.

Please be assured no money raised for Katharine House is being used to fund my trip to Holland, all costs for the trip, and entry fees have been paid by myself personally.

To donate through this JustGiving page is simple, fast and totally secure and your details are safe.  They’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Or to donate just £3 by text simply text KHKW72 £3 to the number 70070

£3 would pay for 15 minutes of specialist 1-2-1 care for a patient.

🌹 Every penny raised through Just Giving or text goes directly to Katharine House.

People who have been looked after by Katharine House, written by their family, and made donations in their memory.

🌹🌹 Karen Walker - my sister in law, Karen, loved life and never complained about anything. She always saw the good in people. Her sons, Adam and Ben, together with Ron her husband, made her family life complete and she was so proud of them.  Karen always kept busy, whether it was visiting her family, going away in her caravan, delivering her Avon or working at the nearby primary school in Rugeley - a job she loved.   It would be fair to say that Karen’s world was turned upside down when she was told she had cancer.  There was no warning.  Despite the shock Karen remained positive.   She made sure that she, with Ron, lived life to the full.   Karen remained strong and dignified throughout her battle, even when others would struggle with it.  During the three year battle Ron, her husband, was there by her side and took her to every appointment, treatment and looked after her every need.  In Karen's final days she was unable to be cared for at home and she was able to stay in Katharine House. This gave Karen the care and help she needed, and the support Ron needed, so he could stay with his wife.

Sadly Karen passed away on 30th June 2013 aged 54.  Karen will never be forgotten by those that loved her and is truly missed by all who knew her.

🌹🌹 John Arkley - dob 27/8/34.  Testament from Lynn Ellison about her father, John Arkley, who received home care from Katharine House.  When John became ill he was looked after by Katharine House staff through their Embrace Carers Service.  He also had occasional night sitting staff to allow family members some rest bite.  When his condition deteriorated night sits from hospice staff became available every few days. This was a huge relief. Sadly due to lack of resources and funds, KH night sitters are allocated daily and unfortunately not everyone can be accommodated. In his final days, John was lucky enough to have someone from Katherine House with him overnight on all of his last few nights. On the night John passed away he had a KH hospice nurse was him and his family.  In Lynn Ellison's own words "the hospice nurse was golden, very caring. They helped us to settle him in when he first came home from hospital and looked after him at the end.  At the end they took over the job of calling doctors and nurses and the undertaker. Due to the support we received we were able to have him home with us from 11th December 2014 until he died on 17th January 2015.

🌹🌹 Thank you for your time 🌹🌹
