RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This time...I may have bitten off rather more than I can chew!!!

On Saturday 9th July (yep, only a few days away now) I am going to get on my BIKE (rather than in my boat which is where you would normally find me) and start cycling towards John O'Groats. Hopefully, I will get there on Monday 19th July - just 10 days, 935 miles and 35,806ft of ascent.

I've trained as hard as I could realistically fit in (to the extent that most of my friends and family have barely seen me since Christmas) but not as much as I would ideally liked to have done. Easter was a week of gruesome hills in North Wales, and I've ridden every weekend since then - dodging ponies in the New Forest, climbing the Oxfordshire Alps, the C2C mid June and a particularly evil 81mile sportive in November (it was really June but the weather was November). Last weekend I did a solo ride to Bristol  - 85miles in the sunshine.

What these rides have taught me is that a little sponsorship from you may just be the helping hand that I need to get to the end.  TEN DAYS IN A ROW!

I'm not a hugely experienced, long in the tooth, hardened cyclist. I am well out of my comfort zone (indeed, there's another matter!) and finishing each day will be an achievement...let alone getting back in the saddle the next morning.

I would like to raise a little money for the team and in memory of absent friends...one in particular who always delighted in this type of endurance challenge - the logistics, the planning, the training and of course, enjoying every minute of the challenge itself.

If you could manage a little 'financial incentive' for me to think about each day, when I've still another 20 miles to go or when the weather is miserable and I would rather lie in bed than get out there in the rain, then I would be very grateful.

50% of the money will go to the RNLI and 50% to the team charity (Dynavox - a clever machine to help paraplegic people communicate just by moving their eye).

Wish me luck...and a following wind ;)
