In 2012, 23 year old PC Nicola Hughes and her colleague Fiona lost their lives in a gun and grenade attack whilst responding to a report of burglary in Greater Manchester.

Amoungst the various charities the Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund supports, it aims to assist young people who have lost an immediate family member to violent crime by providing grants/ funding for educational opportunities/ employment skills.

The "Run to Remember" supports this Memorial Fund charities and leads up to Nicola's dad, Bryn Hughes, also raising money by taking part in the North Pole Marathon in April 2014.
