Story
Hello there lovely people
I have decided that I would like to raise as much money as I can for Leeds Mind, as a previous employee and former service user battling with a lifetime of depression and anxiety, I have first hand knowledge of the difference the service can make to people. I believe that stigma around mental health issues is still sadly very much evident. My plan is certain in that I will be climbing Kilimanjaro in June 2013, a jolly good year I hope, as I will turn 40 and I have managed to inspire another friend to join me for their 50th birthday celebration and also hope to be joined by two very special ladies known to Leeds Mind who I believe could do with a holiday :-). What better way to celebrate a birthday than climb a huge challenging mountain I hear you ask in a hot and dusty country?? Well yes I can think of easier and much cheaper ways, but that's boring and I hate not to have a challenge. Walking, mountains, friends and heat sounds good to me, and the potential prospect of a wee dive trip at the end in warm waters would make me very happy :-). AND if that idiot Chris Moyles manages it so can I (sorry Gemma I dislike him). Now my trusty little pal Murphy has made it very clear he's remaining in this country only, so we have planned a little training regime, starting gently with the West Highland Way. A mere 95 miles, a few wee hills and hopefully a walk up Ben Nevis with the masses. We have tent, we have maps, we have dog food and little else! My Backpack is heavy and Murphy refuses to wear his, so looks like I'll be doing most of the carrying. Those who know me well, know I am a little rubbish with modern technology and get a bit impatient and bored so I'll try update things as best as I can with the odd comment and mountain photo or pics of Murphy chasing a stick.
This is the first of many things I will have to embark on to raise the money I need to get to Africa. As well as Leeds Mind I will also be raising money for Tuleeni orpahange in Moshi which I'll visit when i get there. I'll put up more info in the next few weeks.
Any support and pennies you can offer will help hugely. I know this is a rubbish time for people having excess money to give away but a £1 here and a £1 there soons adds up and I am very grateful to anyone that offers support. Think of Murphys little legs over 95 miles!!!! and mine aren't much longer. Just to be clear I haven't dognapped Murphy, he wanted to come along willingling.......
