Four years ago I had a rare type of lung cancer, the  treatment for which was surgery to remove half a lung. Each year since my surgery I’ve set myself a challenge to raise funds for cancer research and MacMillan charities. Claire W has agreed to complete every one of these increasingly difficult challenges with me. I come up with an idea and Claire makes it happen. It’s been challenging, mentally and physically, and Claire has often joked about finding a new friend, but it’s always fun and I couldn’t do it without her support. I’m very much aware how fortunate I have been to have made such a good recovery. This year we are running the Dundee Half Marathon  in memory of Alan Cooper, who tragically lost his two and a half year battle with lung cancer in May. Alan and I were the same age and he was initially diagnosed with the same type of cancer as me. It was Alan’s wish to raise funds to help others affected by cancer so we and Alan’s family, have chosen to support Maggie’s Centre in Dundee.
